Bit & Bridle Fitting

Bitting and bridle fitting consultations involve assessment of your horse's current bit and bridle fit, a ridden assessment where possible, and then recommendations are made. I do not sell or endorse any brands but carry a variety of Neue Schule, Bomber, HS, HP and Sprenger bits to try which you may then trial from various retailers.

Ridden assessments may last up to 90 minutes whereas stable assessments usually last around 45 minutes.

Prices:

Ridden Assessment £50

More than one horse seen at the same premises - £45

Stable Assessment £35

STABLE ASSESMENT

Firstly, the horse's current bit and bridle fit are assessed. The horse's mouth conformation is assessed - I will need to look inside your horse's mouth.

The owner/rider will then tack up as normal if proceeding on to a full ridden assessment.

For stable only assessments, bridles can be fitted and adjusted, mouthpieces can be tried, however it is not possible to know what will suit your horse without seeing it ridden.

Stable assessments are mainly for young horses which may be being prepared for backing, or for a horse which has gone lame after having made an appointment.

RECOMMENDATIONS

During the consultation I will take notes and leave you with a completed consultation form with any relevant notes relating to recommended changes to bridle and bit fit, as well as type.

I am always at the end of the phone if anything changes!

Biomechanics

Biomechanics sessions are available for both the horse and rider and use Quintic Biomechanics software and hardware to assess movement, posture and conformation.

Rider Ridden Assessments may last up to 90 minutes, rider ground assessments may last up to 45 minutes.

Horse Assessments last up to 90 minutes and involve assessment of the horse in-hand stood still, in walk and in trot.

Clinics - contact us.

During any assessment, a consultation form is completed which will include any relevant notes and recommendations.

If you are looking to increase your rider fitness I can also recommend both physical and psychological rider exercises for work off the horse to improve balance, fitness, and mental well-being. Any off-the-horse exercises can be adjusted depending on how much or how little time you would like to spend training on the ground.

The 2D analysis allows movement to be objectively quantified so asymmetries in the horse and rider can be identified and hopefully better understood to prevent any detrimental affect on performance or heath. The equine biomechanics sessions can be useful for horses that are rehabilitating from injury so that their progress can be monitored and managed accordingly.

As I always say, I am only at the end of the phone if you ever think of anything after our consultation!

RIDDEN ASSESSMENT

During a ridden assessment, I ask rider's to walk first on a long rein so I can observe how the horse would naturally move. Adjustments will then be made to the bridle first if necessary.

Adjustments to the bit will follow as well as the trialling of different mouthpieces that may suit your horse's mouth conformation. I always recoomend owners/riders trial any bits which I have recommended as sometimes a response to a change of bit can happen over a number of weeks.
